Dirtbound multiplayer
Classic and Experimental both cap at 8 players. You need a Google sign-in and a username before the room will take you.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|

| Experimental | 2–8 | Circuit only | Rocket, lightning, turbo | Forced on | Official · 1 source |

The menu screenshot illustrates the Multiplayer entry. The room rules, 8-player limit and host settings below are documented by the official source.
Open a room
- Sign in with Google and set a username of 2 to 20 characters.
- Choose Multiplayer, then Classic or Experimental.
- Pick public (the room appears in the list) or private (you share a code).
- Set laps, length, collisions, camera, and landscape. Only the host can change these.
- Create the room and share the code. Start needs at least two players marked ready.
Host settings
| Setting | Range | Default I kept | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Laps | 1–10 | 3 | 1 source |
| Stage length | 1–10 km | 3 km | 1 source |
| Collisions | On or off in Classic | Off | 1 source |
| Camera | Top-down, chase, or both | Top-down | 1 source |
| Landscape | Varied, Lowlands, High mountains | Varied | 1 source |
Camera set to Both is the only option that lets each driver press C. Joining mid-race waits for the next race. A dropped connection tries to reconnect. A refresh leaves the room. Chat is ten preset phrases, not free typing. There is no public note of server regions or a latency promise, so I leave those blank.
Power-ups
| Family | Tier 1 | Tier 2 | Tier 3 | Status |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rocket | Straight shot | Seeks the car ahead | Seeks every car | Official · 1 source |
| Lightning | Straight shot | Hits the top two | Hits every car | Official · 1 source |
| Turbo | 3 second boost | 5 seconds of invincibility | Teleport forward | Official · 1 source |
If the room will not connect, confirm the host is still there, the code is the latest one, both of you opened the official menu, and both of you finished sign-in. Do not refresh during a race. The interface lines include “Lobby unreachable,” “The lobby no longer exists,” and “Connection lost.” More cases are on troubleshooting. Daily boards are separate: daily challenge.
Questions
How long is a room code?
Five characters. The public alphabet drops 0, O, 1, I, and L so the code is easier to read aloud.
Is there a ranked ladder?
I did not find a persistent rating in the public room rules. A room shows the race result. Daily has its own board, described on the daily page.
