Dirtbound review
Worth opening if you want a free, no-install rally toy with an editor. The wrong fit if you want a career, a setup shop, or a documented native console release.
Who it is for
Open dirtbound.fr and you are on a stage. That is the whole pitch I can stand behind: free, browser, no download, 17 garage cars with five liveries, four season looks, three landscapes, and a circuit editor. Daily gives you a reason to return. Classic and Experimental rooms hold 2 to 8 players once you sign in.
Skip it if you want a licensed rally simulation, a career calendar, damage, or a setup garage. The public menu and car file do not show those systems. Seasons change the look only. The official release is documented as HTML5. Steam and Xbox searches found no listing on 3 Nov 2026; PlayStation and Nintendo searches were inconclusive. Native mobile apps are not documented in the official listing. See platforms and the car list.

What I will not claim
- No frame-rate number. Nobody published a benchmark I can cite.
- No “realistic physics.” The public files do not print grip or power.
- No fastest car. See the car list.
- A Discord invite is available; membership does not measure concurrent racers.
- itch.io discloses AI-assisted code. I repeat the disclosure and do not guess which files that covers.
- The game is marked In development. Updates only lists dated public milestones.
Music credit in the public legal text names andriig for guitar and zapsplat plus soundsnap for effects. I mention that so the review is not only about the driving. Two people made it: Luke Baffait and Victor Boutros.
Questions
What score do you give it?
None. HeapPlay showed 4.4 from 8 ratings and itch.io showed 5.0 from 1 rating on 3 Nov 2026. Those samples are too small for me to publish a score.
Is it pay to win?
The official description and HeapPlay list free browser access. A Ko-fi link is optional support. The car definitions do not establish a complete monetisation or unlock policy.
Sources
Last checked 2026-11-03. I compared the public materials linked below. Official pages, source files, screenshots and the developer’s itch.io listing count as one publisher; a second independent publisher is named separately where available.
